Connectotel Proxy Engine (CProxy) is a free HTTP proxy which runs on any version of Novell NetWare from 4.11 to 6.x.
CProxy provides:
- Proxying of HTTP/HTTPS requests from browser to the web.
- NDS/eDirectory username and password basic authentication.
- Logging of all access to the web in HTTP common log format.
- Support for additional products such as Connectotel LinkWall, AdWall and FileWall solutions.
CProxy does not currently provide:
- Caching
- Proxying of protocols other than HTTP/HTTPS
If you require these features, Connectotel recommends the Novell BorderManager
or Novell Security Manager (NSM) solutions.
Using a Proxy provides the following advantages to an organisation:
- Authorisation of access to the web - a user must enter a username and password before being able to access websites.
- Tracking of access to the web - the HTTP web access for all users can be recorded in a log, including the date/time, username and sitename.
- Security - HTTP traffic does not pass directly to and from the internal network.
- Content filtering - an organisation can make use of additional software to block unwanted material including advertising, undesirable sites or predefined file types.
In addition, CProxy is a free solution, so will not impact on your software budget.
CProxy can be used with Connectotel's AdWall, FileWall and LinkWall software to make use of any public domain blocking list, in SquidGuard Blacklist, DMOZ or 'host' file format.
