Rilla Askew, Paul Austin, Patricia Eakins, Mikhail
Horowitz, Peter Martin, and others will read favorite passages from the
work of Kenneth Patchen (1911-72), who gave the world more than 40 books
of passionate, witness-bearing poetry and prose, as well as a vast and
magical trove of paintings, drawings, and silk-screen prints. Patchen was
also one of the pioneers of the poetry-and-jazz movement, and his
innovative use of typography and glyphs prefigured all sorts of
experiments merging pictures and texts, including those now routinely
essayed on computers.
