Q. What software do I need to install?
A. SMS to Skype uses the standard Skype software. You do not need to install any other software.

Q. How do I send a Skype message from my mobile phone
A. Choose the option on your mobile phone to create an SMS text message. Type the word skype followed by the Skypename of the person to whom you want to send a message, followed by the text of the message you wish to send. For example, to send a message to johndoe you would type:

skype johndoe This is a message to John Doe 

Q. How do I set up an entry for 'SMS to Skype' in my mobile phone address book?
A. See the documentation provided with your phone for information about how to set up an entry in your mobile phone address book. The number for the SMS to Skype service is +447747782320. This is a GSM/SMS number and not a voice number, modem number or SMS service centre. You cannot make a voice call to this number, as it is intended only for the SMS to Skype service.

Q. What is the cost of using the SMS to Skype service?
A. SMS to Skype uses the standard SMS service provided on your GSM mobile phone. Connectotel does not charge you for the use of this service. Please ask your mobile telephone provider for details of costs for using SMS text messaging. Most providers charge around $0.15 US (around 0.10 UK pounds) per message for sending SMS text messages. Note that some Pay As You Talk (PAYT) accounts do not allow sending of SMS text messages.

Q. How long can my SMS to Skype message be?
A. Your message, including the Skypename, can be up to 160 characters in length. Many phones will show you how many characters you have typed or how many characters you still have remaining in your message, whilst you are typing the message.

Q. How do I type a + sign or a 'space' on my mobile phone ?
A. Please consult the handbook of your mobile phone for information on the + sign, 'space' and other mobile phone keyboard characters.

Q. When should I expect the message to arrive?
A. The message should arrive at its destination within a few seconds of you sending from your mobile phone. The message will contain the text you sent and your mobile phone number.

Q. What about privacy?
A. Skype chat messages and GSM SMS messages are encrypted within their respective networks. Skypenames and mobile phone numbers which you may provide within your messages are used solely for the purpose of routing your message to its destination. Connectotel undertakes not to use your personal data in any way other than for the operation of the Skype to SMS and SMS to Skype services.
